Sandwich Showdown Brings Together Local Restaurants and Farms for Eat Local Month

August 15th, 2025, Bellingham WA – Sustainable Connections is excited to announce September Eat Local Month’s Sandwich Showdown. This sandwich competition brings together local restaurants, chefs, and food enthusiasts for a month-long celebration of mouthwatering sandwiches that show off “local layers”, shining a light on locally produced food and the restaurants who serve it.
From classic favorites to innovative twists (including a whole category for ‘Sorta Sandwiches’), there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Folks can vote on their favorite sandwich, and a winner will be crowned at the end of the month. The Sandwich Showdown runs September 1-30 and generates tasty, friendly competition all month long, showcasing the bounty of September.
“I love seeing how the Sandwich Showdown gets customers and restaurants fired up, and this year we are putting an increased emphasis on local ingredients at the height of our harvest season – I can’t wait to taste as many as I can!” says Molly Bressers, Think Local First program manager at Sustainable Connections.
