Annual SSK Insurance Drive Seeks Thanksgiving Turkeys for Families

Unfortunately, the holidays aren’t a happy time for many Whatcom County households experiencing hunger – just the Bellingham Food Bank received 186,000 visits in 2018. Snapper Shuler Kenner Insurance would like to change that for some of them this Thanksgiving.
SSK Insurance’s eighth-annual turkey drive from now through Nov. 15 seeks to help more than 200 local families this holiday season. SSK Insurance is matching contributions of $15 for each turkey that a person or business wishes to donate, up to the first 100 turkeys.
Financial Donors will receive recognition on SSK Insurance’s website, Facebook page and office windows.
SSK will purchase and distribute the turkeys to families in need by the Bellingham Food Bank (www.bellinghamfoodbank.org) and Lynden-based Project Hope Food Bank (www.christianhopeassociation.org/food-bank-1/).
“Many of the local people experiencing hunger are society’s most vulnerable,” said Bobbi Green, a 28-year SSK employee who is heading this year’s drive. “According to the Bellingham Food Bank, nearly 20% of our city visits the food bank on a regular basis, 35% of which are children and 15% are seniors. Last year’s drive gave turkeys to 203 families and we hope generous residents and businesses will help us surpass that total this year.”
