Home Attendant Care, founded in Bellingham in 1983 as Whatcom County’s first home-care agency, is celebrating its 35th anniversary Oct. 4.

An open house with tours, appetizers and door prizes will be presented from 4-7 p.m. Oct. 4 at Home Attendant Care’s Bellingham office, 1151 Ellis St., Suite 204.

Home Attendant Care has expanded over the years. With offices in Burlington and Bellingham, it now serves clients in Whatcom, Skagit, Island and San Juan counties. Its newest division, Home Attendant Nursing, offers skilled services such as nursing visits, client assessments, immunizations, medicine management, diabetes education and support, and case management by registered nurses.

Home Attendant Care’s comprehensive array of individualized home care services ranges from a one-time transport home after a colonoscopy to 24-hour care for hospice clients who may need additional support in their final days. Other services include companionship and respite care services, homemaker assistance, transportation, bathing, dressing and mobility services as well as a special focus on all levels of dementia care.

“We take tremendous pride in working as advocates for seniors to ensure their voices are heard. It is the personalized approach we take when working with our clients and our caregivers that truly makes the difference,” said Debbie Gann, director of Home Attendant Care and owner since 2003. “We focus on the unique personalities and qualities of each in order to find the perfect fit for both our clients and our caregivers and to ensure our seniors have the best care possible.”

Gann also is involved in two other efforts to improve care for seniors. She donates her time to teach a two-session community education class, “Elder Care Options: Help When You Need It,” at Whatcom Community College. The next one is scheduled Oct. 15 and 17. Gann also is partnering with the Palliative Care Institute at Western Washington University, PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center and Whatcom Hospice on “A Touch of Grace,” a training program designed to improve end-of-life care for patients in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Home Attendant Care was founded in 1983 by Bruce Gearhart and Gann began working for him in 1997. It still is the area’s only truly local, family owned, home care and home health agency, Gann said. For more information, call (360) 734-3849 or visit www.HomeAttendantCare.com.
