FREE SCRUBS CAMP: A One Day Workshop for Highschoolers at Bellingham Technical College

June 12, 2019
On June 26th, high school students can explore healthcare career options during “Scrubs Camp,” a free one-day workshop at Bellingham Technical College. Through hands-on activities with professionals, participants will learn about careers in nursing, emergency medicine, radiologic technology, surgery technology, and veterinary technology.
The camp is designed for 9th- 12th graders to encourage students to consider pursuing a career in healthcare. One of the most pressing issues facing the local and national healthcare industry today is the critical need for healthcare providers. In the coming years, thousands of additional healthcare workers will be needed in Washington State. The Bellingham Scrubs Camp is funded through the generosity of WECU and will be facilitated by the Area Health Education Center for Western Washington, which aims to strengthen the healthcare workforce in rural communities.

“Since our hosting our first Scrubs Camp in western Washington in 2018, we have heard consistently that students’ perspectives change after attending Scrubs Camp.  Students have a better understanding about the breadth of careers available in healthcare, whereas prior to the camp they consider the field to be held primarily by doctors and nurses.
Scrubs Camp allows students to explore multiple health careers in an experiential setting, piquing their interest and giving them the guidance to plan how they would access a health career pathway,” said Deborah Elliott, Health Professions Coordinator, Area Health Education Center for Western Washington.

Lunch is provided and parents are welcome to attend.
The camp will run 8:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Pre-registration for the camp is required.
