An Applewood Smoked Bourbon Barrel Opening, celebrating the third barrel produced by Whatcom County’s Bellewood Farms & Distillery, is planned from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 26.

“We make the bourbon from Skagit County corn and grain, then we smoke the grains in applewood from our farm,” said Eric Abel, president of Bellewood Farms & Distillery. “It creates a subtle smokey taste that has been well received by customers.”

Live music from The Banknotes, a local jazz quartet, will be featured during the event, which is only for those 21 and older. Attendees may sample all the farm spirits at Washington’s first apple distillery, as well as play board games, cornhole and frisbee. A special bourbon-inspired menu, including a new Bellewood pizza, will be offered.

Bellewood Farms & Distillery is located at 6140 Guide Meridian, within seven miles of Bellingham, Ferndale and Lynden.

“Guests also may want to stroll through our orchards since blossoms may be starting to bloom on our apple trees, all with majestic Mt. Baker in the background,” Abel said. “It’s a great opportunity for a date night for adults of all ages.”
