North Coast Credit Union is closing its Bellingham branch at 3250 Northwest Ave. on Feb. 28, one of the final steps in the sale of the property to the City of Bellingham.

North Coast agreed in 2024 to sell its 31,056-square-foot property to facilitate additional affordable housing in the Birchwood Neighborhood. The City of Bellingham previously had purchased an adjacent parcel at 3300 Northwest Ave. That lot first will be used as a shelter solution named North Haven, which will replace two other tiny home villages in Bellingham that are facing relocation deadlines.

North Coast Credit Union still will have five branches after the Northwest branch closure, including branches just 1.5 miles south at 1100 Dupont St. and 6 miles north in Ferndale.

“With more members banking online, we’re launching a new website this summer that will provide more information, be easier to navigate and offer live chat and online scheduler options,” said A.C. Griffith, North Coast’s president and CEO. “Then later in the year we will be rolling out a new online banking platform that will be more modern and user-friendly with better financial management tools and applications.

North Coast Credit Union, celebrating its 86th anniversary this year, reported total assets of $354 million and 21,000 members in its 2023 annual report. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Washington state.

After the Northwest branch closure, North Coast has branches in Bellingham, Ferndale, Mount Vernon, Anacortes and Sedro-Woolley.
