Support Affordable Housing in Whatcom County
As Bellingham & Whatcom County grow, so too does our need for housing. And Whatcom County is growing for a reason – people love the quality of life that this place can cultivate, provided you can find safe, affordable housing. At the heart of our communities are our unique neighborhoods and the people living in them.
Our Housing and Smart Growth Program is tirelessly working to support these vibrant, healthy living environments for people and the planet. A key part of that work? Middle Housing, which is essential to creating affordable homes for those that live and work here. Middle Housing is a range of housing types (pictured above) that exist between single family homes and large apartment buildings - think duplexes, triplexes, ADUs, and townhomes.
And with the recent passing of important state housing legislation, it's now legal to build more of these homes right here in Bellingham & Whatcom County - and across the state. Our team helped advance this legislation through their series of educational events, technical research, and housing information.
