Fusion Dental Lab marks its 15th anniversary in January 2020.

Fusion Dental Lab creates dental restorations, such as crowns, bridges and implants, as well as offering services such as night guards and “crown art” – artwork hand painted on the restorations. Fusion works directly with dentists to create restorations for their patients, serving dentists across Washington state, primarily in Whatcom and Skagit counties.

Owners Gary Wrightson and Steve Munro opened the lab in 2005. Both had been working for a small lab that closed and were looking to continue in the dental technology field. The opening brought together their artistic talents and more than 50 years of combined dental technician experience as the foundation to form a new business. Wrightson and Munro both had experience managing labs, and Munro previously owned a lab in California. Originally, they operated the lab out of a small office in a dental building, and moved the lab to its own facility on James Street in 2008.

As new owners, the men complemented their technical experience with advice from Bellingham SCORE to build a solid business strategy and a plan to move forward with the new business.
Fusion Dental Labs Business Manager Alona Wrightson continues to look to SCORE for advice, along with Western Washington University’s Small Business Development Center. She is also a SCORE volunteer, now helping other businesses in the community.
Gary Wrightson became a dental technician in 1988, receiving his dental technology certification at Los Angeles City College. Munro received his dental technology training in the United States Air Force before opening his first lab in 1978.
Like most fields, dental restoration has changed with the rise of digital technology. Fusion Dental Lab’s owners have continued to invest in new technology, yet each restoration is hand-finished to ensure quality and fit.

Fusion Dental Lab is located at 2134 James St. in Bellingham
