There is still plenty of time to serve in the Washington State House Page Program in the upcoming 2020 legislation session.
Rep. Luanne Van Werven is encouraging students interested in the House Page Program to submit applications soon.
“I have sponsored several students during my time in Olympia. All the pages who have served told me they thoroughly enjoyed the experience,” said Van Werven-R-Lynden. The students build long-lasting friendships with others from across the state. We have had pages working at the Capitol since 1891. It is a great program with a rich history and tradition.”
To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. Pages also earn $35 per day while serving in the program.
Pages deliver documents and messages to legislators and staff. During debate on the House floor, they distribute amendments, bills and other paperwork for legislators. They also perform ceremonial tasks, such as presenting the flags.
