Whatcom Community College offers a new, fully online program for adults who didn’t graduate from high school but want to earn a diploma. While the GED prep continues to exist, the High School Completion+ program (HSC+) offers an alternative to students 18 and older. This competency-based pathway differs from traditional high school completion programs because it allows students to receive credit toward their diplomas by demonstrating knowledge, skills, and competencies gained outside of the classroom. These range from employment, military experience, volunteering, on-the-job training, non-credit courses, and additional proficiencies gained through life experiences.

Whatcom County has just over 13,000 adults without a high school diploma. HSC+ offers an accredited, online option that meets the needs of students who are not able to attend classes due to employment, childcare, and/or transportation issues. Tuition is only $25 per quarter. Textbooks and other learning materials are all open resource materials and available free online.
