Whatcom Community College has been approved by the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) to add men’s and women’s cross country teams to its athletics program. Both teams will begin competition in fall 2020, becoming the 15th NWAC school to support cross country as an intercollegiate sport.

“With WCC’s strong connection to the local high school programs and the array of running trails near campus, we look forward to being a place where the talented running youth of Whatcom County can jumpstart their college cross country running careers,” said Athletic Director Danny Day. “We’re thrilled to be able to provide more opportunities for students to compete at an intercollegiate level while pursuing their educational dreams.”
WCC has a long history of successful athletic programs. The addition of these two new sports teams brings WCC’s total athletic offerings to seven teams, including men’s and women’s basketball; men’s and women’s soccer; and women’s volleyball.
Students or parents interested in learning more about joining the cross country teams should contact Day at dday@whatcom.edu or 360.383.3112. The search for a head coach also begins immediately. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply online at governmentjobs.com/careers/whatcomcc.
