Mark Turner of Turner Photographics in Bellingham recently became one of the select few to earn the top degree awarded by the Professional Photographers of America.

Turner earned the Master of Photography degree from the PPA, recognizing Turner’s superior photographic creativity and technical skills that were demonstrated through competitions, advanced education and service to the profession. Only 92 photographers nationwide and just two others in Washington state received the degree this year from PPA, which has more than 30,000 members.

“It’s the process of working 10 years toward this degree that makes you a better photographer both technically and creatively,” Turner said. “The recognition by competition judges who are among the elite in our profession is especially gratifying.”

Turner specializes in family portraits of all sizes in his studio, his portrait garden, or a location that has special meaning to his customers, such as their home, back yard, or favorite park. He likes to incorporate pets, horses, and anything else that is important to the family.

Turner also offers business portraits and head shots, marketing photos for real estate brokers, and garden photography for publishers. He is the photographer and co-author of two books, “Wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest” and “Trees & Shrubs of the Pacific Northwest.”
