Brown & Brown’s 15th-annual Turkey Drive feeds local residents
Whatcom County residents and businesses may help their neighbors in need by supporting the 15th-annual Turkey Drive conducted by Brown & Brown Insurance Services.
The Turkey Drive runs through Nov. 11 to help local families struggling with higher costs, unexpected expenses and job layoffs, according to Alex Bogaard, president of the Lynden and Seattle offices of Brown & Brown Insurance Services. Cash, checks and online donations are sought to purchase turkeys and chickens for those in need within our community. Last year’s Turkey Drive donated 4,881 pounds of turkey and chicken, which were given to 634 local families in need.
The first $2,000 in donations will be matched by Brown & Brown Insurance Services, which last year celebrated its 100th anniversary in Lynden.
Turkeys and chickens will be distributed to families in need by the Whatcom County Food Bank Network (www.bellinghamfoodbank.org) and Lynden-based Project Hope Food Bank (www.projecthopelynden.org).
“More than 20% of Whatcom County’s population receives support from our food banks,” Bogaard said. “We encourage everyone to consider their blessings and join many other individuals, groups, churches and businesses in generously supporting the Turkey Drive.”
Checks may be made payable to Brown & Brown and mailed to 501 Front St., Lynden, WA 98264. Checks and cash may be dropped off at the office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.
