An update on economic development and business growth in Whatcom County
In 2018 the Port, County, and City hired Don Goldberg as the director of the Regional Economic Partnership, which is housed at the Port of Bellingham. Don brings a wide breath of experience and knowledge of businesses development, planning, and a holistic vision of economic development. By January 2019 the team was completed and includes two Project Managers, Gina Stark and John Michener, and a Research and Communications Coordinator, Jennifer Noveck. With a recently renewed Tri-Funder Agreement, the team can now focus on growing and diversifying of the economic base of Whatcom County. As part of that work, the team is building partnerships in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors, and has joined numerous city and county level boards and commissions. On March 12, 2019 from 11-2pm we will be co-hosting an Opportunity Zone Forum at the Squalicum Boathouse with the Whatcom Community Foundation, the City of Bellingham, and the Lummi Nation. The tax incentives tied to Opportunity Zones are intended to create long-term community benefits and financial returns for eligible investors. The event is free and by RSVP only. You can RSVP here.
