Women Sharing Hope’s 18th-annual event
benefits Skookum Kids, Family Promise

Women Sharing Hope’s 18th-annual fundraiser, a champagne luncheon and silent auction, will benefit Whatcom County efforts to aid children and homeless families.

Proceeds from the May 20 event at Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine will support Skookum Kids and Family Promise. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

The silent auction includes many wonderful items donated by businesses and individuals and supports the “Come Away with Me” themed event. A drawing gives participants a chance to win two nights at the Inner Harbor Marriott in Victoria, a spa-cation at The Chrysalis Inn of Bellingham, a family entertainment package, a collection of wine or a custom golf club with an outdoor bar unit. A handbag and garden area will offer beautiful plant and flower arrangements as well as themed handbags featuring overnight bags, a weekend getaway and fitness.

“Women Sharing Hope is operated entirely by volunteers, therefore 100 percent of net event proceeds are donated directly to local women and children,” said Deborah Benz, a Women Sharing Hope event co-chair. “Our events are managed and operated by our 31 members, effectively keeping expenses down, so that a significant percent of event proceeds are donated. Last year our generous community enabled us to raise $60,000 for nonprofits.” Since its inception, Women Sharing Hope has raised over $500,000 for Whatcom County women and children in need.

Skookum Kids is a Bellingham-based organization intent on supporting Whatcom County’s foster care system. By offering training for new foster parents, and childcare at critical junctures, Skookum Kids seeks to ease painful transitions for local foster kids and parents, and buy critical time for caseworkers to find the right long-term placement.

Family Promise is a national movement newly adopted by the Interfaith Coalition of Whatcom County. Its mission is to offer help in the form of temporary housing to homeless families by organizing the use of under-utilized church facilities during the week. Funds from Women Sharing Hope will contribute to purchasing a 14-person van needed to transport families between the host congregations and the day center used by the families.

Reservations for the luncheon are required and may be made at www.WomenSharingHope.com. Tickets cost $50. For more information, call 360-966-6244.
