WCC offers communication and diversity workshops for the workplace

Classes offered through WCC’s Community & Continuing Education program

 Three spring workshops at Whatcom Community College will help organizations and businesses navigate the opportunities and challenges of workplace communication, diversity and inclusion. WCC Community & Continuing Education instructor Monique Stefens, who is a trained facilitator through Excellence Northwest, will lead the courses.
Navigating mine fields at work? Need to deliver difficult messages to staff, partners, or colleagues? Whether addressing workplace conversations in the break room or boardroom, the interactive “When Communication Means Confrontation” workshop on April 6 can help. Stefens will provide insights, tools, and techniques for when to speak up, how to do it effectively, and how to create safety in conversation for best results. Class meets 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Course fee is $69.
Organizations and businesses are navigating the opportunities and challenges of diversity, including people of all ages, genders, races, religions, perspectives, capabilities, beliefs, and experiences. Diversity and inclusion are vital because they foster innovation, produce higher quality results, and yield better solutions. The May 12 “Diversity & Inclusion: Creating Community” will cover diversity and inclusion, why they matter, and strategies for inclusive mindsets. Class meets 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Course fee is $79.
Frustrated by your staff or team? Confused by your coworkers? Increasingly navigating a work environment with up to five generational cohorts? Explore the challenges and opportunities of hiring, training, managing and working alongside those from 18 to 80 years old in the May 26 “Navigating the Multigenerational Workplace.” The class will examine generational norms, individual assumptions, and effective communication tools to maximize learning, productivity, and cohesive teams. Class meets 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Course fee is $69.
