U.S. Bank Donates $25,000 to Unity Care NW’s North Whatcom Health Center Capital Campaign

Unity Care NW is pleased to announce a gift of $25,000 from U.S. Bank to the North Whatcom Health Center capital campaign.

The donation comes from U.S. Bancorp Community Development Corporation (USBCDC), a subsidiary of the bank, which invests in community development projects across the nation that help bridge the gap between people and opportunities.

In addition, USBCDC is facilitating the investment of $4.7 million in low-income housing tax credit equity to help build the North Whatcom Health Center. This investment is part of U.S. Bank’s community development initiatives focus on support of affordable housing, job creation, renewable energy and historic preservation around the United States.

“Thanks to this generous gift from U.S. Bank, our patients will have a reception area that looks out on a protected forest area,” says Des Skubi, executive director of Unity Care NW.  “We’re grateful to U.S. Bank for their support in helping us create a reception area that blends in with the wonderful natural environment of our region.”

The North Whatcom Health Center, located on Portal Way in Ferndale, will expand access to primary medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy services in north Whatcom County. The new 23,000 sq. ft. health center will serve 9,500 patients. It will include 12 dental operatories, expanding access to adult dental care in our community. The facility will also be the largest provider of behavioral health services in Whatcom County, outside of Bellingham.

Additionally, it will add on-site pharmacy services, employ 60 full-time staff, and contribute to the revitalization of Ferndale’s Portal Way corridor. It is expected to be open to patients by the summer of 2019.

“The construction of the new Unity Care NW health care center will be a huge asset for those in Ferndale and Whatcom County who need and deserve high quality health care. We’re proud to make this donation to help patients access the care they need and live healthy and productive lives,” said Rob Camandona, vice president of U.S. Bank.

Unity Care NW continues to raise funds in support of the expansion project. To make a donation to the capital campaign, visit http://unitycarenw.org/north-whatcom-health-center/ or call (360) 788-2628.
