PeaceHealth names Eric Brettner as chief financial officer for Northwest network

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Eric Brettner has been named chief financial officer for PeaceHealth’s communities in NW Washington and SE Alaska. Brettner will oversee all aspects of financial management and financial operations for the four PeaceHealth medical centers in the Northwest network:

  •   PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center
  •   PeaceHealth Peace Island Medical Center
  •   PeaceHealth United General Medical Center
  •   PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center

Brettner joins PeaceHealth after working in healthcare finance for more than 23 years in roles with increasing levels of responsibility. For the last 11 years, Brettner was with Dignity Health facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Most recently, he was CFO for four hospitals – with a total of 1,439 beds – and their associated medical foundations at Dignity Health–Bay Area Service Area.  Brettner feels his personal values align very well with the values of Catholic healthcare ministries such as Dignity and PeaceHealth.

“I am excited to work with the leaders at PeaceHealth and the Northwest network,” said Brettner. “Their energy and dedication to the Mission are very compelling, and I look forward to using my knowledge, experience and energy to contribute to the success of PeaceHealth.”

Brettner earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Saint Mary’s College of California, and a bachelor’s degree, also in business administration, from the University of California, Berkeley.  In his spare time, Brettner enjoys spending time with his wife, Victoria, and teenaged son, Ian.  He lists snowboarding, reading and home remodeling/carpentry projects among his hobbies. Brettner will be based at PeaceHealth St. Joseph in Bellingham, Wash. His first day will be May 22.

About PeaceHealth: PeaceHealth, based in Vancouver, Wash., is a not-for-profit Catholic health system offering care to communities in Washington, Oregon and Alaska. PeaceHealth has approximately 16,000 caregivers, a group practice with more than 900 providers, a laboratory system, and 10 medical centers. PeaceHealth was founded in 1890 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace to fill a need for health care services in the Pacific Northwest. The Sisters shared financial and personnel resources to open new hospitals. They shared expertise and transferred wisdom from one medical center to another, always finding the best way to serve the unmet need for healthcare in their communities. Today, PeaceHealth is the legacy of the founding Sisters and continues with a spirit of collaboration and stewardship in fulfilling its Mission.

PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center, which includes a not-for-profit full-service hospital founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, is part of the PeaceHealth system with medical centers in Alaska, Washington and Oregon.  In addition to the hospital and PeaceHealth Medical Group, PeaceHealth’s services in Bellingham include comprehensive cardiology, oncology, orthopedic and rehabilitation services, a diagnostic laboratory, and a joint venture outpatient imaging service.  In Northwest Washington, PeaceHealth additionally operates critical access hospitals in Sedro-Woolley and Friday Harbor.
