The Leopold offering tours to highlight $1.5M renovation

The Leopold, one of downtown Bellingham’s most historic buildings, is offering tours to highlight its $1.5 million renovation.

The Leopold offers independent-retirement living at 1224 Cornwall Ave. Recent improvements include extensively remodeled apartments, a new theater room with a 70-inch television, a new sun deck and technology additions that upgrade security and fire safety.

“The major investment in our building, combined with our gourmet meals, fun happy hours, on-site barbershop and convenient downtown location, make The Leopold the top retirement community in Bellingham,” said John Meyer, The Leopold’s executive director.

The Leopold was built in 1929 as a hotel and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It offers 91 independent-retirement apartments within a quarter-mile mile of the Bellingham Public Library, Pickford Film Center and at least 45 businesses, including banks, restaurants, grocery stores, clothing stores and a pharmacy. Also, many community events are conducted in The Leopold’s Crystal Ballroom.
