Snapper Shuler Kenner Insurance is shifting to a mobile workforce in Bellingham, a change that will make meetings more convenient for clients, eliminate commute time for employees and reduce the agency’s carbon footprint.
Nearly one-third (nine) of the 28 SSK Insurance employees are now telecommuting, according to Executive Vice President Daun Botta Pillo.
“We are definitely more committed to in-person mobile meetings where the clients are and want to meet,” Botta Pillo said. “It’s about personal relationships, taking the time to explain everything and making them feel comfortable with their purchase.”
Telecommuting also saves time for SSK Insurance employees. According to a recent study by Educated Driver, Bellingham residents spend an average of nearly 42 minutes getting to and from work each day.

“Our telecommuters spend less time driving and more time on focused working while being closer to where they want to be at the end of the day,” Botta Pillo said. “Benefits include increased morale and productivity, according to multiple studies.”

As part of the transition, SSK Insurance will close its office in Bellingham’s Barkley District on Oct. 31 while remaining active in the community.

“We have committed to the 2018-2019 sponsorship at the Mount Baker Theatre and we have employees who live in Bellingham and have always been a part of this community,” Botta Pillo said. “Our community involvement will continue with our annual Turkey Drive benefiting the Bellingham Food Bank and other various events.”

An independent agency with origins dating back to 1925, SSK Insurance will retain its office at 501 Front St. in Lynden. For more information, call (360) 354-4488 or visit www.sskinsurance.com.
