Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center Presents "Compete for a Cause" Weekend
The Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center (WDRC) invites members of the community to take part in two exciting events the weekend of the 8th and 9th of September. These events allow people to come together to enjoy some friendly competition while supporting a good cause.
On Saturday, September 8th, at 10:00 AM, the 12th Annual Cribbage Tournament will take place at Boundary Bay Brewery. Participants will battle their way through a round robin style tournament for the honor of having their name on a plaque at both Boundary Bay and the WDRC. Non-winners will also have an opportunity to play at a second chance table. Participants can enter a raffle for a chance to win prizes such as handmade cribbage boards and Boundary Bay merchandise. Observers are also welcome.
“Cribbage is one of those games that young and old, stranger and friend, can play together in good spirited fun. It’s an all-inclusive way to put a positive spin on conflict—through friendly competition,” said Moonwater, WDRC Executive Director and cribbage aficionado.
Advanced Registration is $25, or $30 at the door (students and seniors $20 in advance or $25 at the door). Online registration is at whatcomdrc.org/cribbagetournament/. Register in person at Boundary Bay Brewery.
Then, on Sunday, September 9th at 11:00 am, the WDRC will host the 5th Annual Wander to Wander 1k. Participants will warm up by enjoying a donut at Johnny’s Donuts. The start whistle will blow sharply at 11:30 and participants will 'wander' (or sprint!) along the marked route .62 miles to Wander Brew Hall. A complementary pint of beer or root beer, a food truck, raffles, and fanfare will await participants at the finish.
Advanced registration: $20 for adults, Kids 8-12 $5, 7 and under are FREE but must pre-register. Day of registration: $25. Registration includes a donut and a pint of beer or root beer. Participants can register online by visiting whatcomdrc.org/wander-to-wander/ or in person at either the WDRC or Wander Brew Hall.
All proceeds from both events benefit the WDRC and its mission to provide and promote constructive and collaborative approaches to conflict. Offering conflict prevention and intervention services for individuals, and families, business, and organizations, the WDRC seeks to help community members better manage conflict as it arises, and to learn ways to minimize the possibility of it occurring.
