BELLINGHAM TECHNICAL COLLEGE HOSTS LINUXFEST NORTHWEST APRIL 28-29, A FREE OPEN SOURCE FESTIVAL!

Free Event —Come to BTC’s campus for LinuxFest, the largest open source sharing event in the northwest. Hot issues such as privacy, surveillance and security are among the many topics covered at this year’s LinuxFest Northwest, taking place at Bellingham Technical College Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29. The Fest runs from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. both days, and admission is free. Come experience a tech-forward, geek science fair!

This year’s theme is Message in a Bottle, with an emphasis on the topics of containerization and security. LinuxFest Northwest is an annual Open Source event that usually draws between 1,500 to 2,000 people interested in learning and sharing ideas about accessible technology. Attendees at this year’s event are coming from as far as Helsinki and Africa to learn and network. This includes Amazon Web Services as well as others who will be there recruiting, and Clonezilla, an open source software development company that is sending a team from Taiwan to exhibit.

"LinuxFest represents a fantastic opportunity to get face to face with some of the brightest minds in the Open-Source world and learn about amazing computer software projects without leaving the Fourth Corner. And it's free!" says Mike Massey, BTC Information Technology Instructor.

This year’s event will feature up to 100 presentations, with session topics that range in complexity so there are activities to interest novices and professionals alike. For a complete list of sessions, go online to www.linuxfestnorthwest.org

In addition to the sessions, the event also will include a variety of educational, networking and fundraising activities, including a free party Friday night for those who register for the Fest. There is also a world-class raffle that is not to be missed. Some of the prizes include a workstation from PogoLinux, Raspberry Pi nano-computers, and many other cool tech items.

BTC IT students and instructors build the network and volunteer to help staff the event in cooperation with the Bellingham Linux Users Group planning team.
