Community invited to Treaty of Point Elliott panel event Jan. 25 at WCC

Signed in 1855, the Treaty of Point Elliott is an integral part of the history of the greater Puget Sound and has had tremendous impacts on the tribal rights, culture, livelihood, and history as well as the traditional lands of tribes within the region. A panel discussion, held 3-5 p.m. on Jan. 25 in Whatcom Community College’s Heiner Theater, will explore the past, present, and future impacts of the treaty. Panelists will discuss the Treaty of Point Elliott from legal, personal, and historical perspectives.

This event is part of the WCC Campus Diversity Committee’s The Equity Project, which is exploring the history of the Coast Salish Peoples in 2018-19. The event is free and open to the community. Parking at WCC is free.
