Fitness Gear & Training, which focuses on holistic and sustainable wellness practices, is celebrating its 30-year anniversary Jan. 8 in downtown Bellingham.

The anniversary celebration from 4-7 p.m. Jan. 8 at 1605 N. State St., across the street from Village Lighting and Quality Rentals, will include tours, appetizers, door prizes and the opportunity to discuss fitness practices with certified staff members.

The Fitness Gear & Training approach includes resistance training, cardiovascular fitness, balance, flexibility, nutrition, hydration and sleep.

“We offer a fusion of different modalities for training,” said Zac Palmer, Fitness Gear & Training’s vice president. “Everybody is different and each person has different needs.”

Owned by Bob and Pat Palmer, Fitness Gear & Training has successfully evolved over time. It started in 1989 as Fairhaven Health & Nutrition, primarily a health-food store with some exercise equipment.

The business name and emphasis soon changed to fitness. Fitness Gear & Training now offers personal training for individuals and couples, a dynamic group training program (30-Minute Fit) and fitness equipment sales, service and installation for home and commercial use. Its product line includes equipment from quality suppliers such as Precor, Octane Fitness, BH Fitness and Hoist Fitness as well as selected used products.

Zac Palmer said 30-Minute Fit combines the expertise and guidance of certified personal trainers with flexibility in workout times and difficulty. It is a dynamic circuit-based program with multiple stations that can be modified for everyone from beginners to advanced fitness enthusiasts. A Fitness Gear & Training certified trainer answers questions and help participants perform the exercises correctly and effectively.

A growing sector for Fitness Gear & Training has been the design, installation and maintenance of fitness facilities for various entities, including city governments, police departments, refineries, hotels, schools and homeowner associations, Palmer added.
