New professional development classes at WCC focus on project and quality management

Gain a competitive edge in the job market or increase work efficiency by taking a project or quality management class at Whatcom Community College. Students who complete the three-course series are eligible to receive a certificate of completion. Instructor Bill Warner is a seasoned project professional who provides students with the essential skills needed to understand and implement the fundamentals of project management in the workplace.

Learn practical project management knowledge and vital skill sets that can immediately be applied to your daily work in “Applied Project Management Fundamentals.” Students will develop the fundamentals of implementing standard processes and best practices to successfully complete projects. The course, which runs Oct. 12 – 26, is the first step in preparing to take the PMI Certified Associate in Project Management exam. Textbook included in $450 course fee.
In “Applied Quality Management Fundamentals,” students will acquire a practical and robust management toolkit that includes process improvement techniques; mapping, measuring, and quantifying process performance; problem-solving techniques; variance analysis; root cause analysis; and identifying and eliminating errors or defects. Through this Lean Six Sigma training, which runs Nov. 2 – 9, you'll be equipped to apply your knowledge and skills to daily tasks that result in enhanced quality, decreased waste, and better cycle times. Textbook included in $450 course fee.
Microsoft Project is a widely used, robust business tool that can help organize tasks and execute workflow with efficiency and precision. Learn how to set up task and resource sheets, create projects from templates, explore scheduling and calendar features, enter and sequence project tasks, define and assign resources, track progress, set up milestones, integrate multiple projects into a master project, and more. Course runs Dec. 7 and 14. Textbook included in $229 course fee.
A discount is available for students who take all three courses, which are offered through WCC’s Community & Continuing Education program.
