Please join us in celebrating the African heritage, culture, and beauty of so of Whatcom County’s youth, Saturday June 9th, 6 pm at WWU.
Whatcom County, a mostly-white community located in the northwest corner of Washington, has experienced steady growth in the number of African youth – including immigrants, adoptees and international students – in recent years.
Our young African friends have done an excellent job of embracing our community and culture, yet they rarely have opportunities to share the unique and beautiful aspects of their cultures with us.

The organizers of Miss Africa Whatcom County aim to provide young African women with a platform to showcase their vibrant cultures while affording them opportunities to serve as positive role models for younger generations.

Miss Africa Whatcom County is not your typical pageant. It’s a multi-cultural event celebrating the beauty of each participant’s heritage while advancing the status of young African women here and abroad.

Through this event, our contestants will have opportunities to develop leadership skills, gain greater self-esteem, and raise awareness about humanitarian issues important to them.

Issues like child marriage, a very real threat for young girls in South Sudan, the country contest Hellena Hope Akudur (1st from the left in the photo above) hails from.

And issues like access to water, a prominent dilemma for Aminata Dolo in Mali.

Our program will equip young African women to serve as leaders and role models here in Whatcom County while advocating for important issues in their home countries.

But we can’t do it without your support.

Your donation will make this program possible by enabling us to rent a proper facility and much-needed equipment, purchase required items, and promote our event.

You can impact the lives of young African women like Hellena and Aminata by making your gift today.
