Living with Our Active Volcano
While there has been much attention on Hawaii’s Kilauea Volcano these last few weeks, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management has been working with Federal, State, Local and International agencies for the last two years updating plans for an eruption of our own active volcano, Mount Baker.
As part of its Community Outreach and Public Education efforts, the Division of Emergency Management is sponsoring a series of seminars for the public to learn about Mount Baker’s past and preparations for future eruptions. These seminars will be held on:
June 12th at Mount Baker High School,
June 13th at Nooksack Valley High School
June 14th at Isom Elementary School (Lynden)
All public meetings will begin at 6:30 PM when residents can meet with volcano experts. Formal presentations will run from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM, with questions and answers to follow.
Presenters include the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management, the United States Geological Survey Cascades Volcano Observatory, and Washington State Emergency Management.
