BTC offers new classes to boost efficiency and reduce waste

LEAN SIX SIGMA CLASSES OFFERED AT BELLINGHAM TECHNICAL COLLEGE FOR YELLOW, GREEN AND BLACK BELT CERTIFICATIONS STARTING FALL QUARTER
Business owners and employees looking to find ways to boost efficiency and reduce waste at their organizations can learn best practices through a new series of Lean Six Sigma courses offered at Bellingham Technical College (BTC) starting this fall.
Lean Six Sigma concepts can benefit a wide range of industries, including fisheries, construction, small businesses and shops, manufacturing, healthcare, and many more. BTC is collaborating to offer Yellow Belt, Green Belt, and Black Belt courses with SixSigmaTV.Net, who will be administering the testing for each level and giving the certifications.
The initial Yellow Belt course starts September 25 and is now open for enrollment at www.btc.edu/takeclasses (type Lean Six Sigma into the filter on the Fall 2018 tab in Take a Class). These courses are designed to fit a mix of industries and employee levels, such as project champions, individuals in the workforce, or teams who are looking to execute improvements within their organization and enhance operations and company flow.
“Bellingham Technical College is pleased to be offering this series of courses. BTC aligns course offerings with community needs, and this type of education is vital to support the growth of manufacturing in our city and beyond,” said Walter Hudsick, BTC Vice President Academic Affairs & Student Learning.
The series of courses will be offered in order and based on demand. The Yellow Belt course can be taken as a standalone course. However, the Green Belt must be completed before proceeding onto the Black Belt certification. Each certification expands on the integral building blocks for creating sustainable, profitable companies.
The Six Sigma Yellow Belt Training program will be offered in Fall Quarter and provides students a hands-on course that will allow them to gain an understanding of Lean Six Sigma concepts and tools and how they can be applied in their work place.
“The course was extremely helpful for my career and specific role. I really appreciated the hands on and engaging approach which helps conceptualize and retain the methodology,” said Andrew Waters at Apollo Professional Solutions.
Both Yellow Belt and Green Belt courses and certification exams will run a second time in Winter Quarter so that students have a second chance to take the classes before achieving the Black Belt certification.
The Green Belt is an eight-day course administered over several weeks. It provides students with a hands-on, thorough understanding of the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) Lean Six Sigma methodology and skills to successfully execute small to mid-size enterprise-wide operational improvement projects.
Black Belt students will progress through and complete the remaining 8-days of the advanced Lean Six Sigma 16-day course (four, four-day sessions, three to four weeks apart) and will gain comprehensive knowledge and applicable skills of the DMAIC, Lean Six Sigma and Design (P-DFSS-- Process Design for Six Sigma) methodology and master the tools to successfully execute mid-to large-scale, end-to-end (E2E), enterprise-wide operational improvement projects.
